蘇生教育の充実を図るために道徳と保健体育を関連づけて学習活動を行い、学校から「命を守る教育」として、家庭や地域に発信する地域貢献策として意義ある活動を目指して本実践を行った。まず、学習のはじめに、心室細動のメカニズム、除細動までの時間と救命率、心肺蘇生法の方法を説明し、一般市民が救える命があることを理解させた。また、新聞や新聞切り抜き情報誌から、救急医療に関する記事を学習資料とし、心肺蘇生法を身につけた人が周囲に存在すれば助かった命があること、心室細動はスポーツなどの場面で若年層にも起こるという実態を認識させることによって、心肺蘇生法を学ぼうとする意欲を高めさせた。その後、消防署や病院など救急医療の現場で働く人から学ぶ活動を実践した。患者の命を取り巻く家族の思い、患者の生死に直面する重圧、救命医療に携わる誇りなどの話は、自分の生き方考える機会にもなった。そして、心肺蘇生法の基礎知識や救命救急法を市民が身につける意義を学習した後、「CPR anytime」を使用した蘇生法の実技学習を行った。このキットのDVDを見ながら学級の生徒全員が一斉に心肺蘇生法を体験できる学習は、生徒数に対して蘇生人形の数が少ない従来の蘇生教育より効率的に学習を進めることができた。また、夏期休業を利用してこのキットを持ち帰り、家庭で家族に蘇生法を教える活動も行った。学習終了後のアンケート調査によると、約7割の生徒が実際の場面で「実行できる」「実行できるかもしれない」と回答している。また、生徒から家庭で蘇生法を教わった家族(保護者が中心)も、心肺蘇生法を身につけるとともに、救命救急法に対する市民の意識改革の必要性を理解できたと事後アンケート調査で回答している。心肺停止という命の危険に最初に向き合うのは、一般市民の場合が多い。本実践は、学校から地域市民の意識改革を図り、蘇生法を普及させる学習活動のモデルとなるものである。
