项目摘要

GIS(地理情報システム)を学習に有機的に取り組むことにより地理的認識の向上を図ることができ、まさに「学び方を学ぶ」教材と成り得る。また、身近な事象を総合的に把握し表現、および分析する手法として、GISを利用した教育が注目されている。地理教育においてGISを活用することにより、空間情報の収集・選択や身近な地域から世界までそれぞれのスケールで地域の類似性や空間的な法則性の考察に大いに役立つと考えられるが、学校現場でのGISの活用は決して十分とはいえない。GISの概念を理解させる授業やGISを活用した探究学習を実践し、その内容や方法を提案し、学校現場へGISの普及を図った。GISの概念を知識だけでなく、実習を通して理解させる方法として、フリーで使用できたり、インターネット上で使用できたりする国土地理院HPのデジタル版地形図「ウオッちず」、「Google Earth」、「カシミール3D」などを用いて実習を行った。既習のカルデラや陸繋島など小地形を断面図・鳥瞰図を作成し、成因、自然災害、人間生活などを考察する。これらの学習で、デジタル地図が位置情報や標高などの属性情報を持っておりそれらを統合したコンピュータ上のシステムであること理解させ、GISの概念を理解させた。また、GISを用いた探究学習として、学校設定科目などの時間に5グループに「火山災害と周辺地域の高齢人口」「閉店したコンビニの空間分析」などのテーマで指導した。フィールドワークにおけるデータ収集方法の一つとして、GPS携帯電話を利用して、位置データと属性情報をメールで送信し、その情報をデータベース化することを試みた。探究学習については、平成22年度地域地理科学会において高校生ポスター発表を行った。これらの活動が評価され、平成22年9月初等中等教育におけるGISを活用した授業にかかわる優良事例表彰地理情報システム学会賞(GISの効果的な活用の観点)、平成23年2月日本国際地図学会第5回(平成23年度)学会賞教育普及賞を受賞した。
