[研究目的]奈良盆地は古代より開発が行われてきた地域であり、今回研究対象とした布留川流域も多くの研究が残る。だが、水利灌概システムは法律で明記されない慣習法であり、都市化などにより把握することが徐々に困難な状況になってきている。本研究では、これらの情報を収集しデータベース化することで、失われつつある地域の情報を共有し社会貢献につなげたいと考えた。[研究方法]ハンディGPSを用いてため池や分水施設などの位置情報を取得し、現状の写真撮影を行った。当該地域のため池造成や河川改修などの開発の様子、水利問題などの情報は、天理市史や山辺郡誌、その他の近世文書を用いたり、現地で聞き取り調査を行い収集した。また現在と過去の様子を比較する為、明治時代の地形図や天理大学附属天理図書館所蔵の絵図を用いて、ため池や分水施設等の確認を行った。[研究成果]この研究費で購入したGPSは、位置情報の取得と同時に写真撮影やエクセルによる情報入力も一台で済ませることができ、時間短縮につながった。布留川流域の灌概状況をデータベース化する為の第一歩である、現在の灌概の様子がどのようになっているのかを把握した。その結果、市街化によりため池を埋め立てられた地域には、水利の問題はほぼ残っていなかった。農業用水を使用している地域でも、吉野川分水開通以前に見られたような、水利権を有する地域に対しての水礼を近年廃止した地域もみられた。また、明治時代の地図や記録を用いることで、現在から明治時代までの当該地域の開発の様子を押さえることができた。当該地域のため池や主要な分水施設などの取得した位置情報は、オープンソースのGISソフトを用いて布留川流域の現状と明治時代の様子を可視化できるようにした。
