伊万里磁器は日本陶磁史上初めて欧州に輸出され、王侯貴族の間で爆発的な人気を博した貴重な文化遺産である。従来の伊万里陶磁研究では、色絵磁器が代表的な作品として取り上げられてきたため、その様式展開に関する研究も色絵を中心に行われてきた。一方、染付磁器については、色絵とは別に体系的な整理を行い、検討することが課題として残されていた。特に、輸出向けの製品については、国内における伝世例や里帰り品等身近な資料数が少ないため、今後の海外における調査の進展が期待されていた。そこで、本研究では、これまで申請者が携わった、欧州に伝世する17世紀から18世紀の伊万里磁器の調査成果を活かし、さらに染付磁器の追加調査を実施し、伊万里・染付磁器の編年を基軸とした体系的な整理を行うことを目的とした。また、当時の欧州市場における競合製品であった清朝の青花磁器についてもできる限り調査を実施し、伊万里・染付磁器と比較研究を行うことを目指した。研究は下記の方法で実施した。(1)申請者が参加した21世紀COE九州産業大学・柿右衛門様式陶芸研究センタープログラム(平成16年度採択、拠点番号28)と、平成22年度・23年度奨励研究(課題番号22901009・23901005)の調査成果から、伊万里・染付磁器を選出し、さらに染付磁器の追加調査を行い、文様、器形等詳細に分析し、特徴を明らかにした。(2)調査した作品群と有田地域の窯跡から出土した陶片との比較研究を行い、可能な限り生産地(内山・外山)別に分類した。上記の調査成果をまとめ、輸出向け伊万里・染付磁器の様式展開について再検討した。その結果、下記の研究成果が得られた。(1)欧州における伊万里・染付磁器の伝世例は稀少とされてきたが、新発見の作品群の存在を明らかにした。(2)南川原山製と推定される作品が数多く遺ることが分かった。また、そのなかには、色絵の柿右衛門様式と同様の意匠展開を見せる作品が存在することが分かった。(3)17世紀末から18世紀前半の染付磁器が遺っており、それらの生産地の中心は内山であったと考えられる。
