本研究は、明治期に著しく発展した伊勢崎、山辺里、桐生3種の織物産業に焦点を当て、明治18年以降の内国勧業博覧会及び共進会などの政府主体でおこなわれた産業博覧会の審査評語が、これらの地方織物産業の技術的成長にいかに関与したかを論考したものである。伊勢崎および山辺里両織物産業は、明治18年開催の繭糸織物陶漆器共進会の審査評語における技術的指摘や改善要望を受容したことから染色技術の堅牢度や発色性を高め、織密度の高い製品を作り出すことに成功するとともに、この技術革新によって意匠の多様性が生まれたことが本研究により明らかとなった。この結果、後の博覧会でも技術的側面から「進歩した」との評価を下され、販路拡張や工場の規模が拡大した。また、博覧会審査評語の受け止め方は地方織物産業ごとに必ずしも一様ではなかったことも明らかとなった。例えば、桐生織物産業については、調査の過程で、博覧会での審査評語よりも寧ろ、百貨店との取引が染織技術革新の原動力であったとの結論を得た。百貨店から出される具体的な要求が、染色堅牢度や発色、織密度の高さなどの様々な面で顕著な進歩を遂げさせ、多様なデザインが生み出される牽引力となったことを突き止めた。本研究の意義は、従来の博覧会の研究が、制度的、政治史的な観点から研究されることが多かった中にあって、実際に出品された織物という実物資料の調査・研究を通じて、博覧会が殖産興業政策に果たした役割を検討した点にある。他方で、桐生織物産業の事例から、博覧会が地方織物産業に与えた影響の限界、具体的には百貨店のような他の影響の存在を明らかにした。なお、本研究の成果は、投稿に向けて論文を執筆中であり、今後、学会での研究発表も予定している。

This study focuses on the development of the textile industry in the Meiji period and the Meiji period, focusing on the development of the textile industry in Iseki, Yamabesi and Kiryu. The textile industry in Iseki and Yamanabe opened the review of the textile pottery and lacquer industry in Meiji in 1918. The technical requirements for improvement were accepted. The fastness of dyeing technology and the high color rendering were evaluated. The technical innovation was carried out in various ways. The local textile industry must be reviewed and evaluated at the fair. For example, in the textile industry, the process of investigation, the review of exhibitions, the introduction of department stores, the driving force of dyeing technology innovation, and the conclusion are obtained. Department store specific requirements, dyeing fastness, color development, textile density, surface development, multi-color development, traction, and sudden stop. The significance of this study is to study the future of the Expo, system, political history of the point of study, research, production, textile, resources, research, communication, Expo production and development policy results, service, research points.
