【具体的内容】1. 森の幼稚園の園児が, 実質的にどれくらいの時間, 運動しているかを明らかにするために, 運動習慣測定器(ライフコーダー, 万歩計様の測定機器)を用いて活動時間を測定した。その結果, 歩行以上の強さの運動に費やされた時間が保育時間全体に占める割合は, 4歳児クラスの男児が23.8%, 女児が18.2%, 5歳児クラスの男児が31.9%, 女児が28.5%であった。さらに, 歩行以上の強さの運動をしている時間において, 速歩き以上の強さの運動をしている時間は, いずれの学年・性別においても30.0%以上であった。2. 森の幼稚園の園児が, どれくらいの種類の運動パターンを経験しているかを明らかにするために行動観察を行った。タイムサンプリングで得られた3450のデータのうち, 87.6%で何らかの運動が観察された。これらの運動を54種類の基礎的運動パターンに分類すると, 38種類の運動パターンが少なくとも1回は出現していた。観察された運動パターン全体に占める割合が1%以上のものは17種類であった。【意義】先行研究により, 森の幼稚園の卒園児は, 小学校で行われる体力テストにおいて, 8種目中の半数以上で, 全国平均よりも有意に高い成績を収めていることが明らかになっている。このことの一つの要因として, 森の幼稚園での生活において幼児が経験する内容が考えられる。本研究はその経験内容の一側面を数値を以て明らかにしているという点において意義がある。【重要性】文部科学省の幼児期運動指針によれば, 幼児期の運動は「様々な遊びを中心に, 毎日, 合計60分以上, 楽しく体を動かす」べきである。本研究の結果は, 森の幼稚園の保育内容が, この指針と同等かそれ以上の運動をすることを幼児に対して促していることを示唆している。
