数年来の著しい研究の進展の結果、従来の諸ジャンルを横断する広範な言説群として確立されるに到った「中世日本紀」を、本居宣長『古事記伝』に到る日本書紀解釈の系譜という観点から検証するならば、焦点となるのは、『釈日本紀』を起点とする吉田家説の展開であり、またそこに深く関与した一条兼良『日本書紀纂疏』であった。『纂疏』を参照しつつ吉田家説の展開を追跡するのが、本研究の中心となった所以である。とりわけ家説の源流を示す兼敦、家説としての骨格を明確とした兼倶、総合化をはかった宣賢を中心として資料調査を行った。その総体としての位置づけと宣長の注釈との連関については、さらに近世における展開をおさえた上で、より包括的な研究としてまとめたい。現時点では、なかでも重要な結節点をなすと目される吉田兼倶(1435〜1511)の講釈活動について論考を準備中である。中世における日本書紀解釈の到達点を明らかにする兼良『纂疏』に比べて、『纂疏』に依拠しつつ自らを形成した兼倶の営みは、一見いかにも散漫であり方向性を見定めがたい。しかしその講釈はきわめて意識的な政治的実践であり、そうであるがゆえに、明確な方法意識をもち、新たな「神代」観を構成しうるものであった。これこそが、近世書紀学の展開、ひいては宣長の注釈活動とはるかに接続しうるものであった。先行する研究を踏まえ、このことを明らかにする予定である。
