1 知的障害者のセルフ・ヘルプ・グループ(以下、SHG)の広がりとともに、SHGへの支援のあり方が問われるようになっている。そこで、愛知・仲間の会のメンバー58名のうち、協力を得られた43名を対象に面接調査を実施し(98年11〜12月)、知的障害者本人は支援者および支援のあり方についてのデータを収集した。その結果、メンバーにとってSHGは、「自信をもてる場」であるものの、メンバー間で「相談」などの相互援助には、「どう話していいかわからない」などかなりの時間を要する実態が明らかになった。一方、支援者の支援のあり方はメンバーの「自信のもち方」や「会の位置付け」に大きく影響を与えており、「自信がついた、成長してきた」と実感するようになると「支援者を自分たちで選びたい」「支援者はいつもいなくてもいい」等の意見が聞かれ、支援のあり方は、SHGの発展やメンバーの成長や状況に合わせて変化するものである一方で、メンバーがうまく自分たちの思いや希望をSHGで表現できにくいことが浮かび上がった。「自信をもつ」ことは知的障害者の生活の質(QOL)にも関わる重要なもので、SHGの場面での支援のあり方がQOL向上への働きかけとも重なっていると分析した。2 本年度も各地の本人の会(当事者の会)で支援者への調査を実施した。その結果、支援者はメンバーのもつ可能性や力をどう引き出し、自信をもってもらえるか悩みながら支援を行っていた。「指導・訓練」といった従来の知的障害者援助論とは異なる、SHGという本人主体の場面での関係づくりの難しさや援助提供のあり方に支援者自身も成長を求められていたのである。以上から、SHGが知的障害者への援助論を深め、QOLの構成要因である「自信」獲得の場として有効であることがわかった。
