平成10年度には、(1)当該二次文献の収集整理とその予備的考察を終え、(2)第二次大戦後の英国社会史研究の専門家にレビューを受け、(3)追加一次史料の収集、の3点を終えることができた。現在は、これまで収集した史料の整理と分析を進めており、その結果は近日報告書の形でまとめる予定である。二次文献の整理からは、1960年代の英国は「大衆消費社会」や「寛容な社会」と呼ばれ、それまでの社会との断絶を画した時代との議論がさまざまなかたちで主張されているが、それらはいずれも断片的な諸事実にもとづいて主張されている。たとえば、テレビや自家用車の保有は1960年代に入ってたしかに大幅に伸びているが、そうした消費主義的なライフスタイルが伝統的な余暇における人びとの人的結合にどのような変化を与えたのかはかならずしも詳細に検討されていない。ただし、60年代の余暇関連の全体的な動向については把握することができた。研究経過のレビューについては、T・メイソン教授(ドモントフォート大学)とN・Tiratsoo博士(LSE/ルートン大学)から受けることができた。人びとのレジャー生活の変容については、消費財の保有量の変化や若者文化の台頭などの目立った現象の背後に、持続している生活パターンを跡付けることの必要との示唆を受けた。さらには、60年代における英国のはば広い政治的・経済的変容に関しても有益な指摘を受けた。今後は、できる限り早い時期に、口頭発表を行ない、論文にまとめて発表する予定である。
