本プロジェクト「世代別消費行動の実証分析」は,以下の3つの目標を持っている。(1)世代間の所得分配を正確に計測する尺度を構築する。この尺度は経済成長の影響をコントロールし,純粋に世代間分配の部分を抽出するように工夫されている。(2)こうして構築された尺度を非常に入手が容易な年齢階層別消費データに適用する。(3)世代間所得分配の国際比較を行う。このプロジェクトはほぼ終了し,さらに関連した研究テーマについて手法を応用している段階である。日本,米国,英国の3国の国際比較から得られた結果は,『日本経済研究』3 6 号および The Economics of Aging (forthcoming)に報告されている。英国に比べて日本と米国では,総消費のより大きなシェアが現存の高齢者世代に分配され,若い世代にはより少ないシェアしか分配されていない。本研究に関連して世代間分配ばかりではなく,世代内分配について実証分析を行い,TheReview of Income and wealth 44 および『季刊社会保障研究』に報告されている。そこでは,所得分配のばらつきが大きい高齢者層のウェートが高齢化とともに高まり,その要因が経済全体の不平等度を引き上げていることを明らかにしている。このプロジェクトを通して日本の世代間分配や世代内分配に関する実証的な知見が深まった。

This article examines the "Analysis of the behavior of different generations". The following 3 items are in line with each other. (1) the distribution of income between generations is correct.
