まず社会が置かれた状況と直面している問題に応じてその祉会で選ばれ実行される利得の配分ルール、すなわち解はどのようなものか仮説をたてた。次にそのような解が提携型ゲームの枠組で論じられる個人合理性(individual rationality)、整合性(consistency)、効率性(effciency)などの性質を満たすかを調べ、解の説明力と性能を検討した。ジョン・ナッシュにより定式化されてから今日まで用いられている純粋交渉問題(pure bargaining problem)は提携型ゲームの特殊なもので、社会の構成員が一人一人独立に行動するか、あるいは全員一致団結して行動するかのいずれかの形でしか利得の実現可能性を許さない設定になっている。すなわち一部の構成員のみが結託を形成しても利得は生み出せないと仮定しているのである。したがって今や経済学のさまざまな分野で応用されているナッシュ解(Nash solution)は、この仮定が満たされている状況でしか用いることはできない。ナッシュ解が広く受け入られている大きな理由は、それが個人合理性、整合性、そして効率性のみならず「ナッシュの公理群」として知られる望ましい一群の性質を純粋交渉問題の範囲ですべて満たすただ一つの解であるからである。そこで本研究ではより広い提携型ゲームの範囲で「ナッシュの公理群」と整合性をすべて満たす解を定義し、それをナッシュ集合(Nash set)と名付けた。本研究ではナッシュ集合が個人間における貨幣単位での利得の移転可能性を仮定しない一般の提携型ゲームの範囲では必ずしも非空にはならないこと、さらに提携型ゲームの全範囲で「ナッシュの公理群」と整合性、および逆整合性(converse consistency)を満たす唯-の解であるが、個人合理性は満足しないことを示した。またそれは利得が個人間において貨幣単位で移転可能である提携型ゲーム(TUゲーム)の範囲では、ナッシュ集合はプリカーネル(Prekemel)という解と一致すること、その結果「ナッシュの公理群」、整合性、逆整合性、そして非空性も満たすことがわかった。
