1.本年度は,5・6世紀中国における小乗仏教の戒律と大乗仏教の戒律の関係を考察する作業として,以下の諸点を行なった。(1)大乗仏教の戒律と小乗仏教の戒律について,これを代表する文献の成立と普及の様子を確定し,通史的に俯瞰することによって相互の関係を総合的に検討した結果,大小乗の戒律が相互に背反しあうものではなく,大乗戒が小乗戒を基礎として,小乗戒の超越をめざすものであることが判明した。(2)小乗では戒律違反となるが大乗の高い立場では違反とはならない実例を検討し,回収した。2.戒律思想と教義等戒律以外の要素の関係を知るために,三学(戒・定・慧)と六波羅蜜(布施・持戒・智慧等六項)という二つの重要な範疇における戒律の占める役割を具体的に検討した。3.申請者と同様の視点から研究を行なう海外の研究者との間で,最新の見解を相互に交換し,発展せしめることをめざして,カナダ国モントリオール市で開催された第三六回国際アジア・北アフリカ研究会議(2000.8.27-9.2)に参加した。そこにおいて研究者同士の情報交換を行なうと共に,「中国=インド文化交流とアジア文明」という名のパネルで,「中国人による仏教戒律の受容」と題する発表を行なった。発表後,多くの質問と興味が寄せられたことは,本発表の成果のひとつと自負する。以上をひとつにまとめるものとして,上記パネルの報告書が,アジア史の国際的学術雑誌のひとつであるJournal of Asian Historyの近刊号として出版予定である。申請者は「五世紀の中国人による仏教戒律の受容」(The Acceptance of Buddhist Precepts by the Chinese in the Fifth Century)という英文論文を発表する。この論文において5・6世紀の中国において仏教の戒律にはいかなる意義があり,どのような形で発展したかを総合的にとらえ論述したので,詳細は同論文を参照されたい。

1. This year, the following points were carried out in China in the 5th and 6th centuries: (1)The great precepts and the small precepts represent the establishment and popularization of literature, the general history of the great precepts and the small precepts, the great precepts and the small precepts are opposite to each other. (2)The small ones violate the commandments, the big ones violate the high ones, the small ones violate the high ones, the high ones violate the high ones, and the high ones violate the high ones. 2. The relationship between the elements other than precepts, such as precepts and doctrines, is discussed in detail in the following three aspects: precepts, steadfastness, wisdom, six paramitas (six items of alms, precepts, wisdom, etc.), two important categories, precepts, occupation, and service. 3. Applicants and overseas researchers with similar viewpoints exchanged their latest insights and developed their own research projects. They participated in the 36th International Conference on Research and Development (August 27-September 2, 2000). The exchange of information between researchers and colleagues is a common topic, such as "China = German cultural exchange and civilization" and "China people's education and discipline". After the presentation, there are many questions and interests, and the results of this presentation are self-sufficient. The above is the latest issue of the Journal of Asian History. The applicant submitted an English paper entitled "The Acceptance of Buddhist Precepts by the Chinese in the Fifth Century." This paper is about the 5th and 6th century in China. It is about the meaning of the commandments and the development of Chinese culture.
