研究の終了年度にあたり、本年度は前年度未調査であったヨーロッパ、東南アジア両地域のアーンドラ式仏陀像の調査を行うとともに、この2年間で調査することのできた作例の基礎データの集成を行った。2000年3月23日〜4月3日に行ったヨーロッパ調査では、イギリスの大英博物館と、オランダのアムステルダム国立博物館、熱帯博物館、ライデンの国立民族学博物館を訪れた。とくに大英博物館では、東洋部学芸員Dr.Michael Willisの協力により、展示されている南インド、アーンドラ地方のブロンズおよび石彫のみならず、収蔵庫の中に所蔵されている作例についても詳しく調査することができた。8月10日から9月5日に行った東南アジア調査では、タイのバンコク国立博物館、ナコンパトム国立博物館、インドネシアのジャカルタ国立博物館、ベトナムのホーチミン歴史博物館および美術博物館を訪れた。いずれの博物館でも現地の学芸員の協力を得て、収蔵品を直接手にとって詳しく調査し、写真撮影する機会を得た。調査終了後は昨年度調査したインド、スリランカの作例を含めた調査ノートと写真資料の整理を行い、アーンドラ式仏陀像の基礎資料集成を作り上げた。本務との兼ね合いなど時間的な制約があり、今回の研究では重要作例が多く残るカンボジアの作例の調査を行うことができなかった。しかし2年間の助成期間で、インド、スリランカ、東南アジア地域から出土したアーンドラ式仏陀像の主要作例についてはほぼ実見する機会を得、多くの場合にはケースから出して作品を手に取り、詳細な調査ノートを作成することができた。これらの基礎データはその分析結果とともに、論文として順次公開していく予定である。
