わが国で活用されているエイズ予防ビデオ教材10本の内容分析を行った木村(1999)では,「脅威型」:エイズの危険性を主に強調する教材,「予防型」:エイズの予防法を主に強調する教材,「検査型」:エイズの早期発見を強調する教材,「共生型」:患者・感染者との共生を主に強調する教材,といった4つのビデオ教材のタイプを指摘した。本研究では,その4タイプの中から代表的なビデオ教材を1つずつとり上げ,それらの教育効果を比較検討した。大学生92名が「エイズ予防教育用視聴覚教材の評価に関する調査」に参加した。参加者は事前質問紙調査票に回答した後,個別に用意されたモニター前に座り,4タイプのうち1つのビデオ教材を視聴した。視聴後に事後質問紙調査票に回答した。その結果,ビデオのタイプ別にかかわらず全般的に,エイズ予防行動意思およびエイズ患者・感染者に対する態度に及ぼす影響は小さいものの,全て望ましい方向で視聴効果が認められた。4タイプ別に比較したところ,エイズ予防行動意思の促進には,予防型が最も効果的であり,他方,脅威型はほとんどの側面に対して視聴効果をもち得なかった。ところが,予防型とその他のビデオ教材との間で,その視聴効果を説明すると予想されたRogers(1983)の防護動機理論の認知変数が,4タイプ間で違いが認められなかった。他方,防護動機理論の7つの認知変数とエイズ予防行動意思およびエイズ患者・感染者に対する態度との間の関係性を検討した結果,それらの関係性が予防型ビデオの視聴によって強化される方向で変化が生じていたことが明らかとなった。つまり,予防型のビデオ視聴が,エイズ予防行動意思およびエイズ患者・感染者に対する態度を改善し,安定化させたと解釈された。
