项目摘要

本研究は、日本と米国の小学校でのフィールドワークと、一日を通した学級実践のビデオデータに基づき、どのような言語教育活動が、どのような談話構造を伴って営まれているかを明らかにすることを目的とした2年計画の研究である。昨年度(1年目)は、両国小学校の学級のビデオ録画と教師へのインタビューにもとづく言語教育実践の特徴記述を行った。今年度(2年目)は、これをベースに、言語教育の活動形態と談話形態に関する分析を行った。その結果、次のようなことが明らかになった。日本の小学校では、国語科の共通の教科書を用いた一斉授業やグループ学習、読書活動などが主な言語教育実践の活動形態として位置付けられ、教師主導の談話構造が中心であった。これに対し、米国の小学校では、言語教育の活動形態に次のような多様性が見られた。(1)文法に関する課題や読書・語彙とスペリングなどのルーティーン、(2)教科書を用いた一斉授業、(3)各教師の工夫と選択により、内容に幅のある課題で構成される授業活動(理科や社会科など複数領域にまたがる内容について、各生徒自身がテーマを選択し、情報を収集し、その利用法を考え、リファレンスつきの文章にまとめるというような、伝統的な教科の枠を横断する実践)(4)保護者を中心とした地域のボランティアによる読書・読解活動。これらが相互に関連しつつ言語教育を構成しており、各活動に特徴的な談話構造が見られた。いわゆる学校国語的リテラシーの枠を超えて、現代社会の様々な実践の一部となっているリテラシーをどのように教室の活動の中に取り入れるかを考える上で重要なポイントが示唆される結果が得られた。また、時間割や年間スケジュール、教授法、教室配置などをだれがどのように構成するかなど、学校運営次元での実践と教室での言語教育実践とが密接に関わっていることが示唆された。
