本年度は、18世紀前半における清とジューンガルの関係史の解明に重点を置いて研究を進めた。当該時期の清朝は、内陸アジア方面において、ジューンガル勢力との間で断続的な戦争状態にあった。そして、このジューンガルとの関係は、清の対ロシア政策にも大きな影響を与えていたのである。清は1727年にロシアとの間にキャフタ条約を締結して、モンゴル方面の国境を画定し、ロシアとの間に新たな安定した関係を築いたが、この直前の時期に、清はジューンガルとの間でも和平交渉を進めていた。この点に関しては従来史料の不足もあってほとんど具体的様相は明らかとなっていない。近年出版が相次いだこの方面に関する漢訳史料集の原本である満洲語史料の調査のため、1999年9月に一ヶ月間北京の中国第一歴史档案館において史料閲覧を行った。その結果、漢訳・出版された史料集には種々の問題点があることを確認し、また、史料集には収められていない貴重な史料を発見・収集した。これらの満文史料及び東洋文庫から複写した満文本『平定準臈爾方略』等の史料を総合的に検討した結果、当時の清朝は、極めて真剣な姿勢でジューンガルとの国境画定交渉に取り組み、ロシアとの国境画定も含めて北方に安定した状況を現出せしめるべく努力していた事を明らかにしえた。このことは清の内陸アジアとの関係を考察する上で重要な論点となる。この研究成果は、論文として発表すべく準備中である。また、この時の史料調査で発見した新出史料の中には、ロシアのイズマイロフ使節団への清側の対応に関するものがあった。この使節団の来訪時期は、清がジューンガルとの和平模索へ向かう直前の時期であり、清・ジューンガル関係の究明にも大きく関連する。この新出史料を用いた研究論文もまもなく発表予定である。
