项目摘要

本研究の最終目標はVideha国王研究の集大成であり、それはまた、古代インド文化研究史上の未解決のテーマである王族の出家について、文献学的側面から貢献することを意味する。今回はその将来的基盤となる、Videha王伝説群中で資料的価値の高いKhuddakanikaya所収のNimijatakaのテキスト形成史の全貌解明をめざした。そのために、H.12、13年度は次の二点を中心に研究を進めた。ひとつはNimijatakaの現存テキスト形成という観点から、その全モティーフについて、入手可能の現存諸伝本間の関係をまとめることであった。もうひとつは、同Jatakaを含む、Videha国王伝説群の思想史的背景を明らかにする意から、Nimijatakaの第一番目のモチーフ「Indra神とNimi王との間で交われる、出家在家の優越に関する問答」に関連して、一詩節の伝承過程を解明することであった。この詩節は、同王家の出家について知る上できわめて重要な意味をもちながら、バラモン教文献資料の不十分さから、従来の研究は必ずしも十分行われてこなかった。前者については、これまで進めてきた関連諸文献の読み込み作業の成果を総合的に捉えてまとめ、H.13年度の学術大会において口頭発表した。後者についてはまず、従来顧みられることの希であった新たなバラモン教伝本を加えただけでなく、Videha国王伝説諸伝本にとどまらない、同詩節の全伝本を集め、それらが示すテキスト一覧、研究史を整理し論文にして発表した。さらに、それらの全テキストを精確に読解し、従来の同詩節の伝承過程のモデルを別の論文にまとめて呈示した。その成果は、同国王伝説についての思想史的背景、あるいは一詩節の伝承過程解明にとどまらず、各伝本の従来の読解の枠を超えながらの、出家主義に在家主義をも加えた古代インドの二大思想史的潮流という、より大きな視点から同国王伝説を位置づけることにつながった。
