本研究の目的は、企業間の資本関係と財の取引関係の集中化が、企業の実物投資やパフォーマンスにどのような影響を与えているかを検証することにある.より具体的に、親会社と取引上密接な関係にある子関連会社は、財の取引に伴い企業情報が流れることで資本市場における情報の非対称性の問題を部分的に回避し、親会社からの出資または融資を受けることで外部資金の調達費用が低くなって過小投資の問題を緩和できるか、について検証した.本年度の研究では、自動車・同部品産業に属する企業について、1977年から1997年のパネル・データを用い、投資が内部資金の制約を受けているかを、投資関数の推計により検証した.先行研究によれば、投資が内部資金の制約を受けているかは、マクロ的な影響を受けるといわれており、それを考慮するため、期間別の分析を行った.結果は、1977年から1983年は投資は内部資金の制約を受けているが、1984年から1990年は制約を受けておらず、1991年の金融引締め期および1992年から1997年の期間は再び制約を受けているというものである.この結果は、株式市場が活況でマクロ的に外部資金の調達費用が低いと考えられる期間は、投資は内部資金の制約を受けにくいという仮説と矛盾しない.またこれら期間の中で1992年から1997年においては、上位10株主が70%超の株式を保有している企業でかつ売上高に占める関係会社への売上の比率が50%超と取引が集中している企業群は、投資に対する内部資金制約の影響がより小さいという結果が得られた.これは企業間の資本関係と財の取引関係の集中化により資本市場の不完全性の問題を緩和できるという仮説と整合的である.
