This application is intended to upgrade existing CW electron spin resonance spectrometer (CW-ESR) to a FT/CW-ESR spectrometer (pulsed operation). This will allow for a major extension of the currently available measurement option towards time-resolved experiments. The upgrade also includes the possibility of time-resolved measurement under irradiation, as well as precise control of the temperature between 4-300 K. The new measurement options will be used for in-depth studies to generate insights into the basic interactions in molecular magnets and Q-bits with a particular focus to better understand and control their structure-property relationships. In addition, the proposed irradiated time-resolved ESR measurement system is intended to significantly broaden the options towards the investigation of radical intermediates in photocatalytic cycles, function-determining triplet states in molecular species, and charge-separated states in molecular dyads and triads. The proposed system will allow to gain fundamental insight into processes that take place during radical polymerizations and thus contribute to their in-depth understanding. The requested EPR spectrometer will will provide a sustainable strengthening of the infrastructure and competitiveness of the chemical institutes, especially with regard to the scientific development in the context of the Collaborative Research Center Transregio 234 "CataLight". The proposed upgrade will further strengthen the cooperation between inorganic molecular chemistry, macromolecular chemistry and physical chemistry, and will open up new opportunities for collaboration.
