项目摘要

本研究では,日本人英語学習者を対象に,コミュニケーション能力の向上を目指した文法指導の理論に基づいた指導内容・方法と教材を開発し,それらの有効性を確かめるために実験授業を行ってきた。特に,日本人英語学習者にはその習得が比較的困難であると言われてきた「関係代名詞節」を調査対象とし,「文法能力を形成する領域」に関しては,最新の生成文法理論に基づいた日本語と英語の「関係代名詞節」構造の分析を通して,その類似点と相違点を考慮にいれた指導方法(文法的説明)を考案した。また,「社会語用論的能力を形成する領域」に関しては,実際の場面で「関係代名詞節」構文を適切に使用できるための教材(絵を使用)を開発した。実際の指導は次の通りであった。グループ(1)は,特に「関係代名詞節」の説明を受けることもなく練習問題を行っただけである。グループ(2)は,「関係代名詞節」の理解(言語的説明)のみに関する指導を受け,練習問題を行った。グループ(3)は,「関係代名詞節」に関する理解(言語的説明)と運用(実際の場面での使用)に関する指導を受け,練習問題を行った。指導後の「関係代名詞節」のテスト(文法性判断テストにより理解面を広範囲に測定)では,3グループ間にほとんど差が見られなかった。また,絵説明テスト(運用面を測定)でも,第1言語の影響による回避行動が働いたためか,信頼できる量の産出は3グループとも見られなかった。日本人母語話者の英語関係代名詞節構造に対する学習困難点の再考も必要であるが,特に,運用面での指導法や教材の再開発が今後の研究課題として残された。

This study aims to explore the ways for Japanese English learners to improve their English proficiency and grammar instruction, to develop teaching materials, and to improve their English proficiency. In particular, Japanese learners of English have difficulties in acquiring relational pronouns. The object of the study is to examine the field of grammatical competence formation. The latest generative grammar theory is based on the analysis of the structure of relational pronouns in Japanese and English. The similar points and contradictions are considered.
