平成13年度は、前年度のドイツにおける調査の成果の分析、取りまとめを行なったのに加え、10月にケルン、ニュルンベルクを中心としたドイツ中部の諸都市において、クラーナハ作品を主とした調査研究および文献史料の調査・収集を行なった。また今年度は、前年度に取りかかったルクレティア図像についての研究の過程で得られた新たな知見を応用しながら、ルクレティア以外の裸体図像、とりわけパリスの審判(三美神)およびウェヌス(ヴィーナス)図像についての図像資料および文献史料による調査研究を進めた。これらの調査により得られた知見として、ドイツにおいては宗教改革の展開がむしろ裸体画の流布を促した傾向が顕著に認められることがわかった。宗教的に重要な主題に比べて、裸体が描かれがちな主題は非キリスト教的なものが多く、制約から比較的自由であったためと思われる。少なくとも16世紀半ばまでは裸体画がかなり自由に展開している。これにはさらにイタリア・ルネサンスの影響としての人体への興味、男性鑑賞者を対象とした好色性、寓意的な教訓性などが関わりあっているようだが、さらに人文主義者たちの「誤りを経て真実へ」というモットーもこの傾向を促進したものと考えられる。そして一点の絵画の中に、同時に教訓画でも、好色画でも、歴史画でもあるという重層性が存在し、そのために一義的に排斥されることもなく、新旧教両陣営においても好まれ得たと推測できる。加えてクラーナハによる異なる主題作品間で、共通の形態やモティーフが度々用いられていることが気にかかり、その実態を明らかにすべく主題と形態の相関性を確認するデータ処理を手がけた。なおこれらの成果については、近く口頭ないし論文発表する予定である。
