(1)文献調査:平成13年度の文献調査については、研究計画に基づき、前年度残された課題の補足調査をするため、先ず海外出張を行なった。具体的には、北京の中国社会科学院世界宗教研究所、中国国家図書館、杭州の浙江大学、浙江省図書館、上海図書館などの研究機関や図書館にて宋代の禅文献の確認調査を行なった。そして、道元とゆかりのある寧波の天童寺や阿育王寺、普陀山、黄梅の五祖寺などの禅寺にて未刊の文献調査を行なった。それらの調査の成果を踏まえつつ、日本国内においては、永平寺や駒沢大学へ行き、『正法眼蔵』の真跡とされる諸テキストを実際に確認することができた。『正法眼蔵』については、幾つかのテキストがあるが、現在活字になっているもののすべてが江戸時代に刊行されたものであり、それほど古いものではないし、また内容や表現についてもかなりの相違が見られるとされており、それらを実際に確認することができた。(2)関連図書の購入と資料整理:申請者が現在所属している郡山女子大学付属図書館に関連文献図書の収蔵が限られており、未収蔵のものの購入が必要であるため、本研究に関係する図書を一部購入した。また、文献の調査や整理を行なうための必要な機材や筆記用具などを研究計画に基づき、補充した。(3)研究成果の発表:本研究の成果の一部を曹洞宗宗学大会で「仮字『正法眼蔵』の成立について」との題で発表した。また、中国へ出張した際、上海師範大学古籍研究所で、「越境する禅籍」をテーマとする座談会を行なった。
