1.ストレスのメンタルモデル:ストレッサーが無気力を引き起こす過程について、素人が有する説明理論(メンタルモデル)を調査した。自由記述式質問紙の結果に基づき、メンタルモデルの内容を測定する尺度を独自に作成し、無気力への対処法を尋ねる尺度と一緒に配布した。大学一年生296名の回答を分析した結果、身体的問題を重視する「身体型」、ストレスが「たまる」から無気力になると説明する「蓄積型」、「感情」「認知」「行動」の問題を考慮する「バランス型」、脳や身体の自己防衛機能を強調する「防衛型」、悲観的な考え方を重視する「認知型」の5種類にメンタルモデルの内容を類型化することができた。モデルと対処法との関係を分析した結果、「蓄積型」や「防衛型」は気分転換を、「認知型」は楽観的に考えることを、「バランス型」は、それらの対処法にくわえて問題焦点型対処を重視することが明らかになった。2.キュー刺激の心像性がポジティブ記憶の想起にもたらす効果:生理心理学的実験により、ポジティブな内容の記憶を、より少ない心的負荷で想起させる刺激の特徴について調べた(n=30)。実験法としてキューイングパラダイムを用い、キュー刺激には心像性の高い単語(例:朝日、笑顔)と心像性の低い単語(例:幸せ、喜び)の2条件を設けた。記憶想起に要する心的負荷を、想起時間、皮膚電気反応、および瞬目数の3指標を用いて評価した。その結果、心像性の高いキュー刺激は、心像性の低いキュー刺激に比較して、より少ない心的負荷でポジティブかつ鮮明な自伝的記憶を想起させることが明らかになった。
