平成13年度はこれまでに収集した文献および調査資料を整理・分析し、今日中国で実施されている「村民自治」の歴史的位置づけを中心に、学会発表と学術論文の形で研究成果を段階的に発表しました。今年度の研究の重点は次の二つです。すなわち、第一に、中国伝統社会における自然形成的「自治」と西ヨーロッパに端を発し、明治期の日本にも大きな影響を与えた「近代的」地方自治との相違点。第二に、近代国民国家の理念に基づいたドイツ・プロイセンや明治期日本の地方自治制度が二十世紀初期中国に紹介・導入されたことの歴史的背景、導入のプロセスおよび制度継受の際に生じた変容。
