自己肯定感尺度の開発を目的とした一連の研究をおこなった。研究1として,18歳以上の男女502名を対象に,(1)自己肯定感を仮説的に定義したうえで,(2)自己肯定感の構成概念を組み立て,(3)自己肯定感尺度を構成する項目の選定と検討,および尺度の作成,を目的とした質問紙調査をおこなった。自己肯定感の定義,およびその構成概念を検討した後,仮説的に作成した自己肯定感構成項目104問について主因子法・バリマックス回転をもちいた因子分析をおこなった。因子軸の回転後,各因子負荷量を得た。各因子に対して|.500|以上の負荷量を示した項目を参考に,抽出した各因子を"自律","自信","信頼","過去受容"と命名した。得られた4因子解を基に,4下位尺度20項目からなる自己肯定感尺度を作成した。研究2として,18歳以上の男女277名を対象に,新たに作成した自己肯定感尺度の妥当性と信頼性の検証を目的とした質問紙調査を実施した。因子分析,t検定,分散分析,判別分析をおこない,因子的妥当性,構成概念妥当性,併存的妥当性,弁別的妥当性,を検証し,十分な妥当性があることを確認した。内的整合性を検証するため,尺度構成項目20項目に対し,Cronbachのα係数を算出したところ,α=.803であった。また,スピアマン-ブラウンの公式による折半法を用いて信頼性係数を算出したところ,ρ=.828であった。信頼性に関しても十分な水準にあることを確認した。さらに、この新たに開発しえた自己肯定感尺度を用いて、中学生を対象にした生活習慣と自己肯定感との関連、教師における自己肯定感の実態、などの調査研究をおこなった。
