ワイマール映画史にとって最も重要な出来事のひとつが、ドイツ最大の映画社ウーファとアメリカの大手映画社パラマウント社とメトロ・ゴールドウィン・メイヤー社との間に取り交わされた<パルファメト>協定であった。研究代表者(田中雄次)と研究分担者(加藤幹郎)は、この協定のもつ歴史的意義を明らかにするために、海外(ドイツおよびイタリア)および国内(国立フィルムセンター)での調査研究をふまえつつ、論文化する作業を行った。平成14年度は、研究分担者に予定していた加藤幹郎がフルブライト奨学金によるアメリカでの映画研究のため参加できなかったために、研究代表者一人がドイツの国立映画研究所および東京のフィルムセンターでの調査研究と文献調査を行ない、その成果として論文「ワイマール映画のなかの女性たち」(『女と男の共同論』所収)を発表した。平成15年度は、8月にアメリカでの留学から帰国した加藤幹郎を研究分担者に加え、加藤のアメリカでの研究成果の報告と研究代表者のそれまでの研究成果の突き合わせを行なった。さらに研究分担者は、2003年10月にイタリアの無声映画研究シンポジウムに参加してドイツを含む1920年代ヨーロッパの無声映画の研究資料を収集して帰国した。研究分担者はその研究成果を研究代表者の勤務する熊本大学を訪問して報告し、その内容について双方で討論し検討した。その成果は、研究代表者の論文「ドイツの<アメリカ化>と国民映画の諸問題-<パルファメト>協定の歴史的意義」(『熊本大学社会文化研究2』・2004)で発表し、2004年秋までに刊行予定である研究分担者の著書『「ブレードランナー」論序説』(筑摩書房・2004)において公表される。今後は、<パルファメト>協定成立に至るまでのワイマール時代初期(1919-1923)の映画界の混乱した状況の詳細な分析と、<パルファメト>協定が形骸化していくワイマール時代後期(1928-1931)に製作されたドイツ映画の分析に重点をおいて研究を継続したいど考えている。
