In nature, we rarely observe epidemics of plant diseases but disease resistance is often quantitative and can vary between individuals. However, the diversity and contribution to this of distinct plant defence responses is unknown. Here, we will show the diversity of early pathogen molecular pattern-triggered and late metabolic defence responses in populations of wild tomatoes. This will enable linking resistance properties with defence pathways in a geographical and evolutionary context.
