第一に、文献資料において法学と文献学が交錯する場面を、研究遂行者毎に列挙し、相互に比較検討を行った。古代ギリシア法中心資料である法廷弁論家の資料とローマ法資料の関係を、大英図書館およびオクスフォード・ボドリアン図書館所蔵写本、さらに17世紀の古典学者兼法学者(裁判官)であったヤコブス・ホイエル(Jacobus Goyer)の蔵書目録調査(久保正彰東大名誉教授所有)より明らかにした(葛西)。また、非法律文献とされるホメロス、ギリシア悲劇、さらにローマ皇帝の賞賛演説集などにおける法概念ないし法思想を表す諸概念の分析を行った(安西。ヘンク)。さらに、フランス民法典の編纂者の一人、カンバセレスの文書(国学院大学図書館訴状東京)目録調査から明らかにした(松本)。これらの調査研究は内外ともに初めての試みであり近世以降の法学者の古写本蔵書には法文献と古典(弁論)文献が並存し蔵書目録では近接して記述されることがある。第二に、法学と古典学が「交錯」するという意味をどのように解釈するかについて研究会を開催し、考察を深めた。葛西はいわゆる「ギリシア法」の性格付けを、弁論術と法学の比較という観点から明らかにし、安西およびヘンクは古典資料のテキストクリティシズムという方法にしたがい、非法律文献と法律文献の語彙的共通性と、古典作品における「法的」行動の分析から明らかにした。松本はフランス民法典序章の抽象的法文の分析を行った。最後に、古典文献と法文献の境界は非常に曖昧であり、両者はむしろ連続する関係にある。従って、資料批判においても内容解釈においても、両ジャンルの文献を分断せず、相互利用することが不可欠である。
