项目摘要

本研究におけるこれまでに行った調査により、第一に、19世紀中葉に近隣諸国に遅れて国民国家を創設したイタリア王国が、国際関係の中で「イタリアは美術の国である」との自覚を強める機会や出来事と「美術外交」推進との間の直接的な関係性があったこと、第二に、建国間もないイタリア王国の政府中枢部において実質的に「美術外交」を推進する者が複数存在したことを明らかにしてきた。本研究最終年の平成20年度の調査・研究では、「美術外交」という施策の核は、実は王国設立以前から、国民国家創設を推進していた、主に北イタリアの一部の人々の間において意識されていたのではないかと考え得るに足る複数の事象を見出すことができた。近い将来、新たな調査結果を含め、本研究全体の成果として世に問いたいと考えている。一方、「美術外交」が実際に展開され始めてから以降の時代においては、美術家自身が「イタリアは美術の国である」との自覚をもち、自ら「美術外交」を推進するという気概のもとに、海外へ移住し、移住先で美術教育活動、及び制作活動をした例として、アキッレ・サンジョヴァンニという画家に関する論考を纏めた。これについては、「アキッレ・サンジョヴァンニと日本-来日経緯と《明治天皇・昭憲皇太后肖像》及び、宮内庁三の丸尚蔵館蔵「締盟國元首肖像」二点の制作-」『京都造形芸術大学紀要GENESIS 12 2007』2008, pp.70-86.において論じた。また、イタリアでの現地調査では、引き続き文書館や図書館などにおいて、一次史料の博捜、及びその分析を行う一方、「美術外交」を推進したと考え得る人物の館を訪れ、「イタリアは美術の国である」という認識や自覚はプライベートな生活の中にも十分に根を下ろしていたことを看取することができ、極めて興味深い材料を得られた。
