项目摘要

本研究では、近世思想史研究の領域の拡大と深化のために、第一に、中国思想に淵源をもち、韓国の儒教において特徴的に見られ、日本でも近世前期、また中期以降では特に民衆的思想において多く見られる「図説」を中心素材として分析し、その結果を東アジア、特に儒教が民衆の生活レベルにまで浸透したと言われる韓国のケースと比較した。第二に、その結果を従来の文献を中心とした思想研究の成果とつきあわせることによって、近世の人びとの基本的思考枠組みを検出しようとした。第三として、たんに近世の精神世界の静態的把握を目指すのではなく、それがどのようにして中世思想から、また近代思想へと構造的に転換するのかを動態的に展望できる視座を提出することで、思想が変化するとはどういうことなのかという、思想史という方法自体の反省的考察を行った。より具体的には、19年度に引き続き、「図説」と文献史料の関係についての分析・考察、それをふまえた近世日本思想史の新たな思想的見取り図と基本的思考枠組みの検出、また韓国思想との比較を行った。特に「図説」を、当時の東アジアの知的体系と動揺という静態的・動態的視座の中に位置づけるために、韓国において共同研究者らと討議を行なった。また「図説」という図像資料と文献史料の複合的性格をもった資料に着目することにより、これまでの文献中心の研究では捉えきれなかった、知識人・庶民を含んだ近世の基本的な思考枠組みの見定めを行った。その過程で浮かび上がってきた課題として、韓国儒教が地方を拠点としているのに対して、日本儒教は都市を中心に展開しており、「図説」の製作の多寡は、このような日本・韓国の儒教の社会的存在形態の違いをその要因としているという予測が得られた。
