项目摘要

本研究は, 日本手話, アメリカ手話, フランス手話等の個別手話言語の手話言語類型論的分析から普遍的な「一般手話音韻論」を導くことを目指す研究の一環として, 手話言語と音声言語を自然言語の観点から完全に対比させ, 手話を構成する弁別的な継起的要素である「手話音素」を「手話弁別素性」の束として考え, 手話弁別素性分析を行うものである。本研究では, 手話弁別素性を「分節的素性(手話動作素性)」と「韻律的素性」に大別し, 前者の分析では, 各手話言語を簡潔に比較対照するためにウィリアム・ストーキーによって創始された古典的な「tabula」, 「designator」, 「signator」, および後にロビン・バティスンによって追加された「orientation」といったアスペクト分析, あるいはエドワード・クリマおよびアーシュラ・ベルジによるパラミーター分析の原点に戻り, 構造や体系といった全体的な視野から手話音韻論を再考した。後者の韻律的素性に関しては, 手話言語, 音声言語を問わず, この素性を言語の「リズム」を形成する基本要素として捉え, 今回は, その中でも特に「韻律的接続様式」である「「突き」の相関」を設定し, [一突き]の場合の「滑音調」リズムを形成する「滑らかな接続」に対して[+突き]の場合の「断音調」リズムを形成する「断たれた接続」を対比させて考察したが, 必ずしも十全な結果は未だ得られていない。だがしかし, 手話動作レベルでの韻律的現象に関しては, 当然, 音韻論的対立は示さないが, 手話動作を調動する基本的な調動エネルギーの差によると考えられる, アメリカ手話やフランス手話のような「断音調」型の手話言語と, 日本手話のような「滑音調」型の手話言語を区別することができたことは特筆に価する。
