项目摘要

For these two years we have been engaed with a co-operative investigation into the Beioukairanjikki in 5 vols. from multiple points of view in an attempt of an interdisciplinary study.Thus we have been interested and aiming in particular in making these following points clear :(1) The career of Kunitake KUME, the editor. and his role in the Iwakura Mission, together with his efforts in writing and compiling this Iterterary. Some Consequences of his experiences acquired in this voyage in his later academic activities.(2) The draughting process of this Kairanjikki.(3) The role of the Iwakura Mission seen in the contemporary context and political history.(4) Examining the description in this Kairanjikki about the countries the Iwakura Mission visited (U. S., Great Britain, France. Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Denmark, Sweden, Austria, Italy and Switzerland) in the light of European and American sources ; and evaluating to what degree this mission succeeded in exact observations and knowledges to the matters concerned in those countries ; at the same time investigating the interests of host countries to this Mission.(5) Taking up several important items treated throughout all the 5 volumes, like Western technology, agriculture, architecture, religion (Christianity) etc. . and certifying how this Itinerary in the Early Meiji Era realized these and how was such a cognition inherited to the later generation.(6) Compiling an integrated index of technological terms as well as proper names in order to understand the interests and recognition of the Kairanjikki on the whole. and faciliating the further research.For this purpose we have held repeatedly the joint study conferences in which every investigator together with some domestic and foreign collaborators presented his contribution, which resulted in collected studies, Beioukairanjikki no gakusaiteki Kenkyuu [The Beioukairanjikki, An Interdisciplinary Study]
