聴覚に障害を持つ乳幼児の初期に見られた発声行動は、聴覚障害のゆえに徐々に消失してゆくことが報告されている。これまでは聴覚障害の発見と同時に補聴器の装用を行なうのが通例であったが、本研究はどの時期からどのような補聴を行なうと最適であるかについて研究することを目的としている。健聴乳幼児の母子コミュニケーション場面について、発声行動の発達的変化を観察記録した。母子の発声をソナグラフと呼ばれる音響分析装置によって分析した。その結果プロソディーと呼ばれる声の強さ・イントネーションについて質的に変化が現れる時期があることが示唆された。その時期は個人差が見られた。前期と呼ばれる無目的に発声を行ないそれを楽しんでいるかにみえる時期と、後期と呼ばれる発声を道具的に行なうことができる時期に大別された。聴覚障害児の場合、前期よりも後期に適切な補聴を行なわないと、その後の音声言語の発達が阻害されることが懸念される。今後、聴覚障害乳幼児についても健聴児と同様な傾向が現れるかどうかを観察記録して、補聴時期の違いによる音声言語の発達状況の違いを検討する必要がある。その考察を元にして補聴の適切な時期について実証的知見が得られる。また補聴の方法については発声行動の変化を観察しながら検討する必要があると考えている。
