素寂の源氏物語注釈書『紫明抄』については、従来京都大学本が最善本として専ら使用されてきたが、他にも内閣文庫に三種類など、約十本の伝本がある。今回これらを総合的に調査した結果、内閣文庫蔵三冊本(内丙本)の特異な形態が浮び上がった。その特性を一言で言えば、京大本などが整備された再稿本(精稿本)的存在であるのに対して、内丙本は初稿本的位置にあるということである。例えば、内丙本には、源氏物語の難解な本文部分を引用して注釈を意図しているものの、具体的に勘注を記すに至らない箇所がかなり存する。それらは今日の注釈書でも解答を見出せない。解釈の困難な部分が多く含まれている。従ってその箇所を指摘したという点において、内丙本の注釈書としての水準の高さが窺えるのである。一方、京大本にはこれらの箇所が存しないのである。考察を重ねた結果、満足のいく解答を得られなかったために、最終的には項目自体が削除されたのであろう。他に補強的な材料もあり、内丙本は初稿本と再稿本との関係にあると断じてよい。内丙本は初稿本には今一つ重要な要素がある。それは『紫明抄』諸本の中では『水原抄』に最も親近性を有するという点である。素寂は河内学派の中でも、兄の親行や甥の聖覚と対立していたため、親行が大成した『水原抄』と異なる説を多く打ち出す必要があった。しかしその一方で、源氏学者として共通の研究地盤に立脚しているから、『紫明抄』は『水原抄』的なものから出発し、次第に独立性を獲得していったのである。従って初稿本の内丙本には色濃く残っていた『水原抄』の影響が、再稿本の京大本ではその色彩を一層薄めるに至るのである。このように、初稿本から再稿本へという視点から『紫明抄』を捉え直すとき、素寂の学問形成や河内学派内の対立事情、『紫明抄』の生成過程など、多くの問題を明らかにすることができる。
