项目摘要

1.ドイツ詩の翻訳史から、森鴎外らの『於母影』、上田敏の『海潮音』、橋本晴雨(忠夫)の『ゲエテの詩』、塩釜天飆『ゲーテの詩』など明治中後期から戦後の浅井真男『ドウィーノ悲歌』や万足卓『ローマ悲歌』までの訳詩を分析し、おおよそ以下の4つの翻訳類型に分類できることが判明した。(a)原詩の韻律や押韻をなんらかの方法で日本語に転写しようとする類型(b)原詩の意味のみを忠実に和訳しようとする類型(C)日本語の詩としての完成度を追求する類型(d)訳詩に注釈や解釈を添えて原詩の訳し難い要素も日本語で伝えようとする類型。これらの各類型はさらにいくつかのヴァリエーションに分けることができるとともに、同一の作品についても複数の翻訳類型が混在していることが少なくない。2.原詩と訳詩とがそれぞれ喚起するイメージを比較すると、ドイツと日本における風景や生活習慣・生活様式、世界観などの相違に起因すると考えられるずれが生じている。これは、日本の西洋化がまだ進行していない初期の訳詩においてとりわけ顕著に認められる。たとえば、森鴎外訳によるハイネの詩「あまをとめ」では、原詩が漁師の娘と詩人との活発な愛の交歓と荒波の激しい運動が呼応しているのに対して、訳詩では「波風あらき」という表現にもかかわらず、浜辺での密やかな男女のむつみあいといった趣が強い。また、戦後でも、ドイツ語の悲歌形式を短歌形式に置き換えて和訳した万足卓の『ローマ悲歌』冒頭における古都ローマの描写では、ローマの風景を見知っている読者にとっては、ローマの町並みではなく、むしろ日本の古都である京都のイメージが混ざって、どこにも存在しない都市の景観が生じる。翻訳の相互干渉作用に着目するならば、このように原詩のイメージが強烈に歪められるところに、この訳詩が有する特別の意義がある。3.同様の現象は日本詩のドイツ語訳にも確認できる。
