無限次元解析および無限自由度の物理系の研究の双方において,著しい進展があった.柏原は量子群特に結晶基底の構成やD-加群の構造について,三輪は可解格子の数学的モデルについて精力的に研究を続け,無限自由度の物理系に起源をもつ数学的問題の考察に大きな寄与をしている.河合はWKB法など特異摂動について代数解析的研究を行い多くの知見を得つつあり,またその成果を量子電磁力学など物理系の研究に関連させている.山崎は無限次元測度の研究を,確率論,表現論との関連のもとに発展させている.特に典型的な無限次元群であるdiffeomorphismの群の表現の研究のために,その基となる測度の構成を目ざしている.中西・小嶋・阿部は場の量子論の研究に大きく寄与し,特にゲージ理論,ハイゼンベル群の表現などの研究を通じて,無限自由度物理系の研究に寄与している.岡本・木田・大木谷は流体場の研究,特に乱流の数値解析的研究などを通して,無限次元解析の研究を進展させている.
