Recently a technique called optical trapping has been developed, so that small particles, whose typiucal diameters are from sub micronmeters to a few micrometers, are manupilated. In this project, we develop basic techniques for arranging small paricles and study optical properties of these structures.In the experimental setup, we have developed a new type of illumination optical system, consists of a projection optical system for two dimentional patterns and interference fringe patterns. Multiple particle trapping can be done by the method of pattern projection. Two dimensional arrangement of many particle is performed and shifted and rotated.Some theoretical studies have also done. We have developed a new theory of optical trapping for non focused beam. The optimum relation in optical trapping force is found in the width of illumination area and the particle size.
