1.日本統治時代の日本語文学が、予想以上に台湾各地に広がりをもっていたことがわかった。『文藝台灣』や『台灣文學』等の中央雑誌のいわば底辺に、日本語を使用した無名の作家・詩人や文学作品が数多く存在したということである。また、収集した資料のひとつに1947年から49年にかけて刊行された雑誌『潮流』があるが、これなどは「光復」後もなお日本語を使用せざるをえなかった、台湾の言語環境の苦渋にみちたあらわれであると考えられた。この文献を使用した研究の一部分は、論文「非情の歌-林亨泰の中華民国」(広島大学総合科学部紀要III-4)のなかで発表した。2.予想以上に、台湾当地での台湾文学の研究そのものが進んでいないことがわかった。それは台湾の現代史のあり方と深く関わっていることがらである。日本統治時代の文献を整理しての研究に、日本語の文献を読むという言葉の問題の点からも、まだまだ日本人研究者が寄与できるものは多いと考えられた。3.今回の研究を進めるうえでのトピックスになったのは、私費で参加した1995年8月開催の「アジア詩人会議」(台湾・日月潭)での台湾の文学者や研究者との交流及び現地での資料収集だった。そのなかで日本語世代の台湾人文学者のもつ複雑性や研究の難しさを実感させられた。そのことに関連した研究についても、論文「非情の歌-林亨泰の中華民国」のなかで一部分を発表した。ただ今回の台湾滞在はきわめて短期間であったため、文学者や研究者との交流や資料収集も限られたものにならざるをえなかった。国際学術研究を進めるための一定程度の条件は整えることができたので、近いうちに長期の留学をしたいと考えている。
