The Study of Ethics Expressed in the Language and the Folkways in Ancient Japan

本研究以日本神话诞生之初的文献和民间风俗为基础，通过考察“言说”(基本概念)与“一神论”(如仪式、遗体)之间的关系，系统地重建了日本古代民众的伦理观念。本研究从四个不同的方面进行了研究：1.通过阅读神话、佛教故事和天台教文献等文献，考察了包括佛教在内的外来文化的接受对传统信仰产生了怎样的影响。这一结果在佐藤雅治的几篇论文和论文中得到了报道，在菅野和约在《研究项目报告》上发表的论文中也有报道。我们研究了日本神话的结构，破译了一组名为“Otogi-Zoushi”的故事。结果以汇编的形式出版：《大木邹史--故事、思想和画面》。3.关于古代民俗和事物，我们收集和整理了许多关于神社、遗迹、仪式等方面的材料。横田在《报告》中介绍了对仪式中的UTA(颂歌或诗句)的部分研究结果。对江户时代的神话研究进行了回顾和考察，主要集中在元森·诺里纳加的神话思想上。特别是，我们考察了古代民俗在整个日本思想中的意义，研究了Norinaga对日语的语音和语法的研究。这一结果在一本名为《本森·诺里纳加·库托巴(演讲)和宫边(优雅)》的书中得到了表达。

This study is based on documents and folkways at the dawn of the Japanese myths, and aims at the systematic reconstruction of ethics of the ancient Japanese people by examining the relationship between "kotoba (speech)" (the fundamental concept) and "mono" (such as rites and remains).The study was made from the four different aspects as follows :1. We made investigation as to what kind of influence the acceptance of foreign cultures including Buddhism exercised upon the traditional beliefs, by reading the literature such as myths, Buddhist tales and the documents of the Tendai sect. The result was reported in several papers and theses written by Masahide Sato, as well as in the papers by Kanno and Yorizumi in Research Project Report.2. We studied the structure of the Japanese myths, by deciphering a group of stories entitled "Otogi-Zoushi." The result was published in the form of a compilation : "Otogi-Zoushi-story, thought and picture."3. As for the ancient folkways and things, we collected and arranged many materials on shrines, remains, rites and so on. A part of the result of the study adout uta (ode or verse) in rites was presented in the paper by Yokota in the Report.4. We reviewed and examined the study of myth made in the Edo period, focusing on mainly the thought of Motoori Norinaga. In particular, we investigated the significance of the ancient folkways throughout Japanese thought, researching Norinaga's study of the sound and grammar of the Japanese languag. The result was expressed in a book entitled "Motoori Norinaga-kotoba (speech) and miyabi (gracefulness)"
