1)手話語彙および構文能力の発達に関する資料の収集両親聴覚障害家庭に協力を依頼して親子のコミュニケーション場面を定期的にVTR収録した。コミュニケーションの場面から手話表現(単語および文)を抽出した。更にこれを補足する形で、母親に対象児が日常生活のなかで使用している手話表現のリストアップを依頼しそれをVTR収録した。収集した語彙・構文パタンに基づいて幼児手話の特徴を分析した。・発達初期の手話と身振りはその区別が必ずしも明瞭ではなかった。・1、2歳児について、音声言語にみられる擬声語・擬態語に相当する手話の出現、語の般化、教育機関で使用しているキュードスピーチの影響などが確認された。・語のつながり方(構文パタン)について手話特有と思われる形式が認められた。・5歳児については、音声言語との並行使用の場面が多く見られた。・コミュニケーションをする場面や情況に応じて手話表現の使い分けが見られた。すなわち音声言語との並行使用と、成人聴覚障害者的手話の使用が確認された。2)聾学校生徒の手話使用の実態調査高等部国語科における教師および生徒の手話使用についてアンケート調査を行った。・多くの教師が手話を「口話の補助手段」として使用し、日本語に従属したものとしてとらえていた。・教師は、手話を情報伝達に効率的で有効なものとして考えているが、自己および生徒の手話能力を、教科学習に利用するには不十分であると見ていた。
