北海道開拓記念館に保存されている第2次世界大戦時の朝鮮人強制連行関係資料の整理分類と労働実態の調査を目的として研究を進めた。この研究によって得た新たな知見は、次のとおりである。1.連行者名簿の整理分類ーとくに住友金属鉱山,北海道炭鉱汽船(北炭)関係資料、日曹天塩炭鉱関係資料の整理分類を行い、強制連行された朝鮮人1,200名の連行者リストを作成した。これにより連行者氏名,年令,職業,本籍,連行時の居住地などを詳細に明らかにすることができた。2.強制連行関係資料の整理分類ー連行にあたっての現地における労務者の割当と募集状況,輸送計画および渡航状況,受入先での稼動状況,管理対策,稼動中の騒擾事件,逃亡状況,就業中の災害被災状況,慰安事業および馴化のための協和会組織などに関する資料の整理分類を行うとともに、それらの具体的事項を調査し,一連の強制連行,強制労働の経過を明らかにすることができた。3.強制労働が行われた現地の状況調査ー各鉱山は閉山後、かなりの年数を経過し、連行者が就労した事業所,収容された施設などはすでに存在していないが,各地に死亡者の墓碑,慰霊碑などが残存しており13箇所においてそれらの調査を行った。4.強制連行関係者からの聴取調査ーとくに、金属鉱山関係者から強制労働の実情を聴取することができた。それらは労働形態,就労内容,労務災害などに関する具体的内容であり,上記2の内容を補充するものであった.5.研究成果の公表ー研究成果の公表については,平成5年度の北海道開拓記念館研究年報および北海道開拓記念館調査報告に登載し一般への公表を行う。
