1992年度は終戦直後のマンハイムの経済的再建過程で女性が果たした役割について研究を行った。その際、いわゆる「拡大された家事労働」の内容に即して、女性が家庭維持のためにどのような活動を行ったのかを解明するとともに、女性の就労行動と就労にかかわる意識を、米占領軍及びドイツ行政当局の経済政策、更にマンハイムにおける労働市場のあり方に関連づけながら分析した。これらの分析を通じて得られた知見は以下の通りである。すなわち、(ア)女性たちは、就労の如何を問わず性差役割分業の中に組み込まれることによって、経済再建を可能にしただけではなく、社会秩序や規範の再建と安定化に寄与することになった。確かにこのことは女性が果たしている現実的な役割と、その社会的な無力さとの矛盾を解消することにはつながらなかった。しかし、(イ)個々の女性に即してみるならば、性差役割分業に組み込まれることは、必ずしも女性の男性への完全な従属化を意味してるのではなく、それは「拡大された家事労働」からくる巨大な負担を軽減するこにつながり、また女性の自立性を圧迫する社会的な圧力に対する、女性の側からの一つの積極的な対応でもあったのである。本研究の次の課題は、経済的再建過程における女性の意識と行動が、女性の政治意識、労働組合や政党の再建とどのようにかかわってくるかを解明することである。これによって、政治的な側面からも、女性の活動領域を家庭に限定することでマンハイムでの戦後再建がすすめらたことが明らかになろう。
