项目摘要

本研究では,統率・束縛理論を中心として生成文法のこれまでの研究を踏まえて,英語の前置詞句と副詞句が文の構造においてどのような役割を果たすかという問題,および,名詞句移動,Wh移動,LF移動という操作に関して前置詞句や副詞句がどのような振舞いを示すかという問題,さらに,前置詞句や副詞句が正しい意味解釈を与えられるためにはLF表示においてどのような扱いを受けるのが適当であるかという問題を中心に,次のような検討を行った.(1)副詞句と前置詞句の文構造における役割:副詞句と(副詞的な)前置詞句は統率・束縛理論ではこれまで文構造では一括して「付加詞」として扱われてきたが,記述文法における副詞の研究で主張されているように,動詞によって義務的に選択される補部,動詞によって随意的に選択される付加詞,文構造には組み込まれない離接詞の3種類は最低限認める必要があることが明かである.また,疑問副詞については,howとwhen,whereとwhyという三つのクラスは,少なくとも多重疑問文においては異なる振る舞いを示すことが明らかであり,さらに,howが補文に生ずる場合,その補文が時制節であるか不定詞節であるかによって多重疑問文の適格性が異なることが明かである(この問題は「副詞の種類と文構造における位置付け」として発表予定).(2)疑問副詞と疑問前置詞句の違い:疑問前置詞句は意味的には疑問副詞と非常に似ている場合があるが,統語的には異なる振る舞いを示す.最も重要な点は,多重疑問文において疑問副詞whyは元の位置に残ることができない場合でも,for what reasonという疑問前置詞句は元の位置に残ることができるということである.この違いは,意味の観点からも文構造における機能からも説明がつかないが,LF部門における移動を仮定し,その際に残される痕跡が一般的な原則によって認可されるかどうかという観点から考えると,説明が可能になる(この違いについては「多重疑問文と残置Wh要素」として発表予定).以上の2点のほかに,「時を表す副詞の意味解釈と移動可能性」と「動詞+不変化詞構文」についても研究を行った.

This study focuses on the study of generative grammar in command and constraint theory. English antecedent sentences and adverbial sentences are constructed in the context of sentence structure. The problem of sentence structure, noun sentence movement,Wh movement,LF movement and operation is related to antecedent sentences and adverbial sentences.
