项目摘要

森鴎外の独逸三部作の注釈を試みるに当り、『舞姫』『うたかたの記』『文づかひ』各作品の底本については、テキスト・クリティークの結果、初出稿を採用した。その調査過程で諸本文の異同状況も明らかとなった。適宜、段落分けの後、注釈を必要とする語句を抽出。処女作『舞姫』に関しては、問題点が多く諸説粉々としているため、まず従来の主要な論を収集しカード整理に努めた。作品を読み解く上でポイントとなる語句、例えば「留学」「学問」「真の我」「我ならぬ我」「母の死」「弱き心」「一点の彼を憎む心」などを中心に、複雑な語りの構造を分析し、明治期の価値体系の中に置き換え、作品の構成や内実に則して綿密に読みとることで、従来の解釈より幅の広い読みの可能性を見ることが出来た。『文づかひ』は、研究文献が少なく、読みが未だ徹底されていないため、詳しい注解を必要とする箇所が多く残されている。従来の説を全て比較検討した上で、独自の読み方を考察した。作品を読解する際に重要となる語句「それがしの宮」「黒き衣」「鸚鵡」「欠唇の童」「小林士官の夢」「スフィンクスの謎」「水色ぎぬ」「冢穴」などについて、語り手の役割や謎とき小説の手法を分析し、鴎外の〈則写〉の方法を明らかにすることで、作品に描かれなかったイゝダ姫の避婚の真実が解明できたと思う。一語一文に則して丁寧に読んでゆき、また事実関係を調査する中で、多くの新しい発見に導かれた。いずれ『文づかひ』論として発表を予定している。『うたかたの記』については、時間の都合で未だ調査の途中であるが、様々な読みの問題が浮かび上がって来たので、前二作と同じ方法で作業を継続したい。特に「ローレライの絵」の完成・未完成をめぐる問題は、作品の読み方を大きく二分しているが、精読により絵の完成を裏付ける根拠を見い出すことができた。今後の見通しとして、以上のような成果にもとづき独逸三部作の諸注大成を行いたいと思う。
