G.チョーサーの『カンタベリー物語』諸刊本の中で、今日まで一般的に受け入れられてきたF.N.Robinson(ed.)The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer(Boston:Houghton Mifflin,1957,1961)(以下Robinson版と略す) その改定版L.D.Benson(ed.)The Riverside Chaucer(Boston:Houghton Mifflin,1987)(以下Benson版と略す)N.F.Blake(ed.)The Canterbury Tales(London:Edward Arnold,1980)(以下Blake版と略す)のテキストをパーソナル・コンピュータ(以下パソコンと略す)を利用して計量的比較をするにあたって、Robinson版とBenson版は共にEllesmere写本に基づいて編集されたものであり、Benson版はRobinson版の改定版にあたるので、Robinson版を第一テキストに選んだ。このテキストをチョーサーの写本の中で最古のものと推定されるHengwrt写本に基づいて編集されたBlake版と比較することにした。両テキストの顕著な特徴をパソコンによって包括的に把握することを可能にするために、まず各行が対応しているテキストを作成した。そこで、Hengwrt写本に欠落した箇所は本研究のテキストからは削除することとし、Blake版と、Robinson版の本文の共通部分のみを比較した。その際、用いた手順は実績報告書の序文(英文)に述べたとおりである。最終的に、両テキストを行単位に出力し、一目で単語が共通するところと違うところが把握できるようなリストを作成した。添付した実績報告書の本文がそれである。(A Comprehensive List of Textual Comparison between Blake's Edition and Robinson's Edition of The Canterbury Tales)実際、そのリストによって生じた研究成果は大学紀要などの研究機関誌に発表する予定である。
