For the creation of a mictopump made of ionic polymer gels, utilizing its abrupt volume change by a small variation in pH,temperature, salt concentration of solution, and so on, Ag/AgCl microelectrodes were made on a glass plates by the usual photolithograph method and were covered by an ionic polymer gel film. The ionic polymer gel film was prepered by two different methods ; 1) they were prepared by radical copolymerization of methacrylic acid and crosslinking reagent mixture solution, being spread on the microelectrodes and heated to start radical copolymerization, and 2) they were prepared by the photocrosslinking reaction of diazo resin and polyacrylic acid solution cast on the microelectrode and UV irradiated. Experimental conditions to prepare the ionic polymer films were studied in details. The swelling and deswelling of those ionic polymer gel films were studied by connecting electric power supply to control the electric current through the microelectrodes. The swelling was monitored with a microscope.On the other hand, we propose self-organization in a nonlinear oscillating system to control the micropump, which is made of many microelectrodes and potentials of these electrodes should be controlled. Especially self-organization in a chaotic oscillating system is interesting because the micropump controlled by such a system works with a multimode and can remove automatically a small dust stopped in the pump. That is, it could be a self-repairing system, which is important for micromachines because they are so small that they usually refuse an artificial repairation. A coupled chaotic oscilltion system was studeied in details with a computer simulation method.
