意味記憶における漢字表記語の語彙的表象の構造と処理過程に関して、単語の認知という大きな枠組みの中での検討を進めるために、課題の遂行の際に語彙的情報により強く依存すると思われる音読課題を用いて、音韻的プライミング効果の成否を調べる実験を行った。プライム、ターゲットの両刺激には、漢字2字で表記された語を用いた。プライムとターゲットの関係が実験要因であって、両者の間に音韻的な関連があって、かつ両者に共通の漢字が1字含まれる共通文字音韻的関連条件、両者の間に音韻的な関連のみがあって、共通の漢字は含まれていない非共通文字音韻的関連条件、プライムに中立刺激を用いる中立条件、両者の間に音韻的にも文字的にも関連のない無関連条件の4条件を設けた。また、SOA条件を700msに設定し、音読課題における反応時間を測定した。実験の結果、共通文字音韻的関連条件と中立条件との間、および非共通文字音韻的関連条件と中立条件との間に、それぞれ有意差が認められた。共通文字音韻的関連条件と非共通文字音韻的関連条件との間、および中立条件と無関連条件との間には有意差は認められなかった。すなわち、音韻的プライミング効果は促進の効果として生じていること、プライムとターゲットに共通の漢字1字が含まれるかどうかには無関係に、音韻的プライミング効果は得られること、しかもその結果の強さは共通文字の有無にかかわらず同程度のものであること、の3点が明らかになった。このような結果は、漢字表記語の語彙的表象の場合も、かな表記語の語彙的表象と同様に、音韻的類似性のみにもとづいて構造化されている可能性を示すものと考えられる。
