本研究の眼目は、室町時代後期において、単に西国の一大名にとどまらず、室町幕府政治に参画して日本の歴史を大きく牽引くした大内氏の研究のための基礎史料のなかで、その中核をなす発給文書の整理・検討を行うことであった。本研究は、単年度ものであるが、この一年間の研究実績の概要は、以下のとおりである。1.まず手始めに、既刊史料集から、大内氏歴代の発給文書を検索・採集し、これを編年体で整理した。既刊史料集とは、大日本古文書のほか、『氷上山興隆寺文書』など地域で刊行された諸史料である。2.大内氏関係の文書を多く含む史料が山口県文書館に所蔵されている。本研究では、この史料の調査が一つの山をなす。そこで本研究の一環として、この調査を行った。全部完了したわけではないが、刊本との校合、未紹介史料の筆写を試みた。3.その他の機関の所蔵する関係史料の調査も若干行った(たとえば、国立公文書館内閣文庫所蔵の「蜷川家文書」)。4.本補助金で購入した広橋家旧蔵の記録(現、国立歴史民俗博物館所蔵)によって、記録史料による大内氏の動向(具体的に言えば、義興)を調べ、本研究の主題たる文書発給の背景的状況を究明した。
