Fundamental Study on the Inh abitant of Insects and birds with Rooftop Garden and Ivy in Urban Area

建造屋顶花园和用爬藤等攀缘植物覆盖墙面，可能是保护城市生物多样性的有效方法。本研究旨在确定植物种类、植物种类的维持和利用与栖息昆虫和鸟类的数量和种类之间的关系。在东京和横滨，共有10座带有屋顶花园和常春藤覆盖表面的建筑被选中进行这项研究。结果总结如下：(1)共查明昆虫37种，鸟类14种。(2)植物的种类、绿地的维护和利用以及总体环境状况对10栋建筑内及其周围的昆虫和鸟类种类数量有很大影响。

The creation of rooftop gardens and the covering of wall surfaces with climbing plants, such as ivy, may be effective ways of protecting biodiversity in urban areas.This study was undertaken to determine the relation between the plant species, the maintenance and use of such planted are as and the unmber and variety of inhabitant insects and birds.A total of 10 buildings with rooftop gardens and ivy-covered surfaces in Tokyo and Yokohama were selected for this study.The results are summarized as follows ;(1)The existence of 37 species of insects and 14 species of birds, in total, were confirmed.(2)The type of plants, the maintenance and use these green spaces and the general environmental condition greately affected the number of species of insects and birds found in and around each of the 10 buildings.
