本研究は,定年の及ぼす諸影響(生活経済面,心身の健康面,社会関係・生きがい面など)のうち,比較的研究の進んでいない社会関係面の分析を試みたものである。家族,親族,友人,近隣,等の諸関係への影響について,定年者の人生経路を考慮して分析した。定年者のそれまでの職業履歴,時代的背景,定年後の時間的経過,とりまく家族環境,男女の別などの諸要素が与える媒介的機能に注目してみた。これまで,家族内外での祖父母と孫の関係や,地方都市郊外における高齢者世帯のサポートネットワークの調査研究を積み重ね,さらに地方国立大学の教育学部を卒業した女性高齢者の職業経歴および現在のサポートネットワークの調査を実施してきた。今回は,この主題に関係する諸文献を収集検討し,さらに具体的には,地方中枢都市の学校教育施設において長く教員生活をおくり,定年を経て,現在も同じ都市域において生活をおくっている高齢者(63-77歳)を対象に調査票による調査を実施し,また一部の対象者については面接を試みた。調査票は,上記の枠組みにしたがって質問を構成し,該当の年代の教職員録を基礎に選定した483人に郵送し,350人の回答を得た。きわめて誠実な協力を得て有効な結果を得ることができた。定年後の諸関係は豊富であり,サポートネットワークも多様に展開していることがわかった。地域社会におけるさまざまな活動に積極的に参加し指導的な位置を得ている人も少なくない。制度的な団体などに限定されず,ボランタリックな活動にも多くの人々が取り組んでいる姿が浮かびあがった。地方都市域に限定される結果ではあるが,地域社会における教員の社会的地域や社会生活における定着性,また教員文化のありかたにも注目の必要があるようである。したがって,定年前の職業に関して,教員とは別のものをみて比較する必要もあると思われる。
